Trade Balloons
Sep 2010 What can trade balloons do for your company? Using balloons in public facing commercial situations can dramatically increase the visibility and memorable nature of your brand and business. Imagine, for example, a trade show. It’s a vast hangar filled with identical flat pack stands – partition walls; tables; chairs; posters. An unending sea of sameness where the only variation is in the colour and size of each company’s logo.
The point of a trade fair, of course, is to drum up new business – to find contacts with whom you can develop profitable relationships. That means getting noticed – and then being remembered. Dress your stall with trade balloons, which can be purchased as furnishing items as well as the more traditional giveaway. If you have a podium or lectern at the front of your stall, for a reception staff member to field enquiries and sort out meetings, use balloons as framing for it. Have nests of balloons bearing your company colours or logo floating from the top edges of the stand. People will notice you, they’ll seek you out – and, most importantly of all, at a trade show: if they’ve seen you once already and want to come back, they’ll be able to find you with ease.
Trade balloons are neither expensive nor hard to source: and they come cheaper the more you buy. That’s as handy for product promotions and handouts as it is for more off the wall ideas: how about, for example, sending out balloon messages with customer orders? Depending on your business, you could have all sorts of “outside the box” marketing opportunities perfect for balloons: use them instead of visiting cards, or even business cards; replace complement slips with balloons; and offer customers a gift packaging service that lets them put a personal message card on the weight and ribbon of a miniature helium balloon. Trade balloons, like all good advertising opportunities, are as versatile as your imagination – and your imagination, of course, is what got you this far in the first place. Think of custom printed balloons as an awareness tool, a workable gimmick – whatever you like. But do recognise that they are more than just a handout on a stick in the local shopping centre.
Not that there’s anything wrong with a good old balloon handout, mind you. The kids love ‘em; the parents, whose kids are being kept quiet by them, love ‘em too; and the companies (that’s you) that use them love the free mobile advertising they represent. In a world where the Internet is everything and people feel increasingly cut off from their shopping, why not get out there with some trade balloons and remind your customers how real you are?
